What Is OCD and How Is It Treated?
Did you lock the door? What if your hands aren't clean enough? A thought gets stuck in your mind and you feel compelled to do something to feel relief. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is exactly this loop, and it is treatable. Here is how we break it in Caddebostan.
What is OCD?
OCD has two parts: obsessions (intrusive, anxiety-provoking thoughts) and compulsions (repeated behaviors to reduce the anxiety, checking, washing, counting). Relief is brief; the loop feeds itself.
Common symptoms
- Contamination fears and excessive washing
- Checking (doors, stove, plugs)
- A need for symmetry, order, "just right"
- Unwanted, distressing thoughts and mental rituals
OCD treatment
The gold standard is CBT based on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP): approaching the anxiety-provoking situation at a safe pace and staying with it without performing the ritual. Over time the brain learns "nothing bad actually happens," and the loop weakens.
Frequently asked questions
